January "Mutsuki(睦月)"

This is the first article of this year.

This year, we will introduce the name of the 12 months in old Japanese "和風月名" in this blog monthly.

This month is called "Mutsuki(睦月)".

"Mutsuki" was used as the name of the first month of the year in lunar calender.

But in recent years, it has been used as another name of January in the Gregorian calender.

Each kanji character means to be close(睦), and moon or month(月).

On January, people visit close friends and/or people who we want express our appreciation to be close each other.

That is why; we call January "Mutsuki".

We used to bring a special gift wrapped in Furoshiki when visiting someone for a New Year's greeting.

We hope that this custom would revive because "wrapped in Furoshiki" could express a feeling of gratitude.

You can use these Furoshiki as a special gift to express gratitude.
